A message from Archbishop Michael

Archbishop Michael, after consultation with the Very Reverend Jeremy Crocker, Dean of Nicosia, has appointed Mrs. Georgia Katsantonis as an Ecumenical Lay Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral. Since the 1980s Georgia has served with great dedication in the diocesan office and has been Personal Assistant to four of the five bishops to date.

She becomes the first honorary Ecumenical Canon of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf. This honor is given by not a few dioceses around the world to Christians of other traditions who are intimately involved with Anglican life.  Georgia, a lifelong observant Orthodox laywoman, has accumulated an unrivaled knowledge of Anglicanism and has done a great deal to liaise between the diocese and the Orthodox Archbishopric of Cyprus as well as other denominations.

She will be installed at St Paul’s in a simple service of evening prayer at 5.30 pm on Tuesday 23 May. Any who wish to attend will of course be most welcome. Please pray for Georgia, for the cathedral in Nicosia, and for the whole diocese to whose service she has devoted much of her life.

Attention: Relief for those affected by the earthquakes

Many are deeply concerned for those affected by the earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on 6 February, and many have been in contact seeking guidance in their wish to give to the relief effort.

The following link from the ACT (Action by Churches Together) Alliance provides updates on partner responses and where to donate, especially in respect of Syria, which is part of our Province: https://actalliance.org/act-news/act-members-bringing-life-saving-aid-to-syria/

ANY clothes items, blankets, shoes, etc. for Aid can be dropped off at Ledra Palace Hotel from 8am to 8pm all this week.

With thanks and best wishes,

Dean Jeremy
